George Bostan achieves Honors in Student Day examinations in Gainesville, FL

March 10, 2012 marked the Student Day examinations for the Gainsville chapter of Florida MTNA. George Bostan tested on Level 1 successfully, receiving excellent scores in performance, ear test, sight reading and theory. He performed with confidence in the Gainsville Honors recital held March 13, 2012 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Gainsville.

Young talent is the highlight of this concert as the Inland Valley Symphony, directed by Maestro Anthony Parnther, features concerto performances by the winners of the 2012 Young Artist Competition:

• 1st Place - Elias Butterfield, Piano, Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3, 1st mvt.
• 2nd Place - Clara Truong, Piano, Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 2, 3rd mvt.
• 3rd Place - Derrick Tiu, Violin, Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen, Op. 20
• 4th Place - Bret Paddock, Piano, Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue

We are pleased to announce a debut appearance on this program by our two youngest youth ensembles, under the direction of Karen Thurman-Palmer. Prelude (beginning strings) and Attacca (intermediate orchestra) will each perform two selections.

The Inland Valley Youth Symphony will play the beautiful "Nimrod" from Elgar's Enigma Variations and join IVS for the concert's finale on Andrew Lloyd Webber's ever popular "Phantom of the Opera!"

Steinway Society of Riverside County Junior Awards Festival

March 3 marked the day of the Junior Steinway Awards Festival. Students through 8th grade were performing in two public Master Classes and one public recital.  Ranen Unger Hicks, grade 5 was selected a scholarship winner. He will perform in the winners recital on May 12.

Bret Paddock wins Lake Elsinore Rotary Competition in both Piano and Instrumental categories

February 22, 2012 Bret Paddock was successful performing the Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, accompanied by teacher Eva Martin-Hollaus; he received 1st place for his performance.  And if that was not enough, he also performed two selection with solo bass violin for which he also took 1st place in the Instrumental category. Bret received $200.00 in prize monies.

Southern California Junior Bach Festival February 26, 2012

In this event over 50 students up to age 18 participated. The judges selected 12 winners, 3 alternate winners and seven Honorable Mentions.

From our studio:
Eduardo Dominguez and Adam Ghilarducci both first time performers in the Junior Bach festival performed the Two-Part Invention # 1;
Raeva Solbach performed Canario by Van Hofe; 
Anais Perkins performed the short prelude in d minor; 
Niranjana Premananthan performed the Two-part Invention # 10 and
Ranen Unger Hicks performed the Prelude from the English Suite in a minor. Ranen was awarded third alternate winner.


All students received a participation certificate and a ribbon.

Inland Empire Piano Festival February 12, 2012

Patrick Xu received a 1st place in category V-A; Ranen Unger Hicks received a 1st place in III-A; Kelly Rausch received an Honorable Mention in II-C; Anais Perkins performed in IV-A. This year the theme of all performances was classical composers. I am very happy my students had this opportunity to perform and demonstrate control, understanding of style, artistic interpretation and technique.
Congratulations to all performers.

February 11, 2012 Bret Paddock was one of the performance winners auditioning with the Inland Valley Symphony.  Bret Paddock was the first performer of the day auditioning with the full Concerto version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, accompanied by Eva Martin-Hollaus. He was chosen as one of the winners performing with the inland Valley Symphony Sat., March 31st, 2:30 PM at the Gershwin Performing Arts Center, at Murrieta Mesa High School, in Murrieta, CA.

Winter Music Festival Escondido, January 28, 2012

I am happy to report that our Studio was represented with Kelly Rausch (10), Ranen Unger Hicks (10), Adam Ghilarducci (12) and Anais Perkins (13). Kelly Rausch performed the Chopin Waltz op 64 no 3; Ranen played the Prelude from the a-minor English Suite #2 by JS Bach; Adam performed the Bach Two-Part Invention #1 and Anais played the Kuhlau C Major Sonatina.

They are received a Superior rating, a trophy and reviews critiquing their performance. Sincerest thank you, to Hanna Kogan for making this event happen.
