90 minutes Piano Guild audition and three double programs

My first five students in the annual Piano Guild auditions this year. Patrick Xu preparing to perform in a 90 minute audition the regular 15-piece High School Diploma, piano performance music minor degree; Cynthia, Kathleen and Stacey Phan are each preparing to perform the Advanced Bach Plaque (15 Bach Inventions) and a second 10-piece program. Thulasi Yogarajah is preparing to present her 8th year National 10-piece program. 8 programs, 8 gold medals, 8 composers pins. The composers pins are awarded fir gold medal program after the fifth year.
Now, all we have to do is practice and perform. Five students, 100 pieces, including scales, chords/cadences and arpeggios.
All programs except for Thulasi's needed to be approved by head quarters.
Total performance time for these exams is six hours

Sixth Piano Guild High School Diploma

In the 13 years teaching piano in the Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula area my piano studio was able to produce 6 High School Diploma winners as certified by the American College of Musicians:
Jake McKeon, Paderewski Medal and $200.00 scholarship winner;
Shanti Ryle, Paderewski Medal and $200.00 scholarship winner;
Juliette Beucler;
Mitchell Johnson;
Bret Paddock, Paderewski Medal and First Place - Top Five 2012 scholarship winner;
Sai Sivapalan, Paderewski Medal and Top Five 2013 scholarship winner.

Eva Martin Hollaus Piano Studio - Piano Guild auditions 2013 - results

I am very happy to announce that this year's piano auditions are completed!
Our auditions started in June and were completed end of August 2013.
 The students performed either a gold medal 10-piece program (National-10) or a gold medal 15 piece program (International-15). Both Adam Ghilarducci and Cynthia Nguyen Phan performed two programs successfully giving credit for two years auditions.
All students performed 1 - 5 musicianship phases; most performed were scales, chords/cadences and arpeggios, sight-reading and ear-training was also tested.

Adam Ghilarducci performed TWO programs in the Piano Guild auditions

Adam Ghilarducci, age 13, performed two programs.  He played the Advanced Bach plaque and an additional regular 10 piece program.  The Bach program included 14 two part Inventions and 1 Sinfonia.

Adam's second program included the Alla Turca by Mozart, a Scott Joplin rag and two tangos by Astor Piazzolla.

Mitchell Johnson completed the Piano Guild High School Diploma program, in a 90 minutes audition. Mitchie has been studying piano for 6 years with Eva Martin Hollaus. Mitchie is working towards a career in composition and engineering.

The Last of the Piano Guild Auditions for 2011

I wanted to acknowledge the last students who participated in the Piano Guild auditions:

Raeva Solbach performed a brand new 10-piece program that she learned in 6 weeks in the Elementary A category. Her former teacher taught excellent Suzuki piano, which was excellent memory work, but lacking in reading and confidence learning new pieces. This program was the perfect opportunity to catch up on missed basics. Raeva performed a brand new 10-piece memorized program that helped her catch up. Congratulations to her very first gold medal!

Sharmini and Nira Premananthan performed on Friday, both earned their gold medals with 10-piece programs.

Sierra Rupnow could also perform her 6th year in Piano Guild auditions earning a Gold Medal with her 10-piece program.

Yin Ni Lee performed a difficult 3-piece program. This was Yin Ni’s first piano guild audition and I am very happy she went and performed.

Thank goodness – it is all done and over! It seemed this year had been extremely difficult to push through. There were scheduling changes, scheduling conflicts that suddenly arose left and right; all done – what a relief. I feel I could go on a three week vacation — but you know, it will not happen. The summer months are the golden time to work technique and get a few pages in the theory books done.

Onward and forward, tomorrow is another day, more great music to listen to.

Maybe I could say, I live from one note to next well played note!

More on our total Gold Medal count later, I need a couple hours of vacation, until tomorrow!

Eva Martin Hollaus and Shanti Ryle

Eva Martin Hollaus and Shanti Ryle. Shanti's National Guild of Piano Teachers High school Diploma Certificate and the MTAC Certificate of Merit, Branch Honors and Graduating Senior Plaque. As time flies, Shanti has been my student since January 2000. This year marks Shanti's 10th Gold Medal Piano Guild Certificate. "Thank you, Shanti, for staying with piano; you are an amazingly accomplished all-around artist. The very best of luck to you in your music and drama career - wherever it may take you, you will shine. Congratulations!"

Two New National Piano Guild Auditions Gold Medal Winners

August 12, 2011, Sharmini Premananthan (14) completed successfully her 6th year Piano Guild Gold Medal National Certificate in the College Preparatory Classification and Nira Premananthan (10) completed here 4th year Piano Guild Gold Medal National Certificate in the Intermediate A Classification.
Congratulations to both for their accomplishments.

Sharmini is attending many academic challenge classes and is extremely busy; but she loves playing piano. Playing piano provides mental and emotional relaxation balancing her extremely challenging academics.
She was able to perform a wonderful program that included two preludes by Bach from the WTC I, the e minor prelude and the F sharp Major Prelude, the Scott Joplin Paragon Rag, the Lecuona Gitanerias, the Mozart Sonata in B flat Major K  570 1st movement, The Schubert Klavierstueck D 946 #1 and the Chopin Etude op 25 no 1, musicianship phases that included all scales in Major and minor, chords/cadences and arpeggios.
Sincerest thank you, to the judge Mrs Joanne Lo who evaluated the audition. The auditions were held at the Foundatin Valley Music Center in Huntington Beach, CA.

Shanti Ryle completed her Piano Guild High School DIploma Certificate

I am very happy to announce that Shanti Ryle of Temecula, CA completed her Piano Guild High School Diploma July 30, 2011. Shanti Ryle has been studying with Eva Martin Hollaus since 9.5 years. This is Shanti's 10th year in the Guild auditions with her 10th gold medal program. The requirement for a gold medal is to present a 10 - 15 piece program memorized and well prepared and performed.
In order to be able to participate Shanti needed to get her program approved by December last year, she needed to be in 12th grade and meet all technical and program qualifications.
Shanti completed her examination with flying colors. She performed a very demanding program that included the entire Beethoven Sonata "The Moonlight", the J. S. Bach WTC II f minor prelude and fugue, the Scott Joplin Waltz Bethena, Debussy Claire De Lune and Bruyeres, Lecuona Cordoba and the Rachmaninov Etude Tableaux op 33 no 8; besides all Major and minor scales, chords, cadences, inversion, modulations, arpeggios, sight reading and ear training.
Shanti also was awarded the graduating senior medallion and certificate in the advanced level in the MTAC Certificate of Merit (TM) earlier this year.
Congratulations to Shanti's outstanding accomplishments.
